Careful hands-on care to support symptoms of concussion.

Ultra-gentle touch for post-concussion symptoms

During a concussion event, impact forces translate into shearing or pulling of brain cells, which drastically alters brain activity in the affected region.

With sufficient rest, these areas often heal on their own as swelling decreases and crucial metabolic activity resumes. However, some individuals experience persistent post‑concussion symptoms.

Common symptoms include headache, dizziness, sensitivity to light and noise, irritability, slower cognitive processing, fatigue, and sleep disruption.

Bringing ‘felt sense’ options for a nervous system that’s still on high alert

By offering an ultra‑gentle approach to the head, neck, and body, we expand care options for individuals who may benefit from a style of contact that often uses the least invasiveness.

High quality research in this field is still quite limited. However, newer studies involving post‑concussion participants suggests that craniosacral and related therapies, which hone in on the body’s deeper connective fascia with subtlety and nuance, can be beneficial. A preliminary study that followed participants 3 months post‑intervention reported reduced pain, improved quality of life, fewer depression‑related symptoms, and longer sleep duration.

My background in concussion care

About ten years ago I had the opportunity to provide craniosacral therapy to multiple people living with chronically injured brains, either from physical impact or rare viral diseases. I was fascinated by how quickly they responded to my treatment, and it inspired me to pursue further brain‑specific training within the craniosacral paradigm.

Due to heightened sensitivity to pressure change and other effects of brain injury, individuals may experience fear and guarding around the head and neck. However, attuned touch can help bring awareness to physical and emotional symptoms that, once held and acknowledged, may be ready for transformation.

In total I’ve been training in, offering, and receiving this type of therapy for the past 16 years. The practices I have learned along this path I have found to be relaxing, empowering, and grounding.
